TURBO STOX 2010

This is a beginner division for people on a budget to get a taste of racing. Let's keep it cheap and fun.
(Don't look for loopholes and get creative or there will be a rule change the next week to stop it.)
A. Eligible models and bodies:
1.1970 or newer American made cars only.  Wheelbase not to be less than 108 inches. Cars with wheelbase longer than 108” must use rims with 4” offset only. Offset measured at the inside of flange to the inside bead.
2.Thunderbird and Cougar body styles with 106 inch wheelbase are legal
3.Camaros, Novas, Mustangs, El Caminos, as well as cars with T-tops, sunroofs, or Convertibles are NOT legal.
4.Must have factory firewall, floor, rocker panels, trunk, and rear wheel wells and remain in stock location.
5.Frame must be same as make and model of body.
6.Front wheel wells (inner liner) may be removed.
7.No sharp objects allowed in driver's compartment. All doors must be welded shut.
8.Minimum car weight is 3000 lbs., including driver, as measured on track scales.
9.3200 lbs. for cars with 361 or larger cubic inches engines. 406 CI Maximum.
10.        Maximum 78” tread width outside tire to outside tire at spindle height.
11.        Left side weight 56% maximum
12.        Roof Height 51" minimum.
B. Seat and dash assembly:
1.Dashboard may be removed only if a roll bar dash hoop replaces it.
2.Racing type seat belts (harness) required (four or five point). No older than 2 years.
3.Racing seat is legal (aluminum recommended - Fiberglass seats NOT allowed)
4.Steering column shaft must be collapsible.
C. Bumpers and bracing:
1.Car must have stock front and/or rear bumpers with no sharp corners or may use tube bumper with 5 star cover.
2.Bumpers must be wrapped into sheet metal to prevent hooking.
3.No extra bracing or plating of any kind.
4.May have 1 bar across radiator.
D. Windshield and glass:
1.All glass (including headlight, taillight, etc.) must be removed except for the front windshield.
2.Lexan windshield is legal.
3.One stock position, stock interior rear view mirror only. Wide angle racing Mirrors OK.
4.          Window nets are mandatory.
5.No side view mirrors.
E. Roll cage and sidebars:
1.Car must have at least a four-point roll cage constructed of .095 tubing, 1 ¾ diameter.
2.All chassis to be constructed of steel including but not limited to tail sections, door bars, rub bars, bumper bars.
            No Aluminum Allowed anywhere.
3.No tubing less than .063" shall be used on any other supporting bars anywhere in the car.
4.Roll cage must have at least three door bars on drivers' side, and two door bars on the Passenger side. Driver's side bars must have 1/8"(11 gauge) deflector plate on outside.
5.Roll bar must be located directly behind driver and close to roof of car.
6.Drivers compartment must have complete roll cage padding.
7.Rear support bars may pass through rear firewall and attach to any point of the frame inside the body.
8.Roll cage may extend through front firewall, but cannot reinforce the end of the core support. 
9.Roll cage may not reinforce the body or bumpers.
10.Cars with unsafe or poorly constructed roll cage will not be allowed to race. Roll cage construction will be closely inspected. All chassis to be constructed of steel including but not limited to tail sections, door bars, rub bars, bumper bars, etc.
F. Trunk and hood:
1.Factory hood and trunk latches may be removed and replaced with pins or straps.
2.Trunk and hood must be easily opened. Padding under hood must be removed.
3.          60" X 5" LEXAN SPOILER ALLOWED.
4.No home made roofs, home made body panels allowed with a minimum thickness of .024" before paint.
            Steel only.
5.         Short track template must fit car.
G. Frame:
1.          No modifications to frame. (You cannot shorten or add on to frame, move or alter control arm mounting points.
2.          Frame plating, Xing allowed.
3.         Trunk floor may be removed
H. Suspension:
1.Suspension must be at stock height (reasonable level)
2.Street stock steel. Economy type-racing shocks allowed. No aluminum shocks. Not to be gas rechargeable.
3.One shock per wheel. No Heim joints allowed.
4.Must be mounted in stock location with stock mounting hardware.
5.Cut or rated springs allowed, Spacers are allowed.
6.Adjustable weight jacks allowed on the rear ONLY, must remain in stock location. Front ride height adjusters may be used but shock, spring and all front-end components must remain in stock location.
7.Minimum cross member height is five inches. No other structures may extend below cross member, i.e. weight devices.
8.No rear sway bar allowed.
9.All suspension components (spindles, control arms, ball joints, etc.) must be stock for your make, model and year.
10.      Aftermarket rubber or plastic bushings are allowed. No solid steel bushings.
11.      Rear spring buckets allowed, adjusters allowed.
12.      UPPER control arms may be lengthened or shortened a maximum of 1"
13.      Aftermarket upper control arms will be allowed. (Front Only)
14.      No aftermarket trailing arms.
I. Brakes:
1.Stock factory brakes for your make and model car. All 4 wheels must have working brakes.
2.Adjustable proportioning valve for rear brake bias ok. (No double masters with balance bar adjuster)
3.Aftermarket steel hubs allowed (for safety) must have same diameter and width rotor as stock.
J. Gas tank and fuel:
1.Stock gas tank must be replaced with racing fuel cell, or small outboard marine type tank.
2.Tank must be securely mounted as far forward as possible.
3.10" minimum ground clearance. Only center of trunk may be cut out for cell.
4.Tank must fill from inside trunk. No fuel lines or filler hoses in the driver's compartment.
5.Rear firewall must completely seal trunk area from the driver's compartment.
6.No electric fuel pumps.
7.Fuel is to be gasoline only. No alcohol or oxygen bearing additives.
Unaltered Definition
       All engine parts must be in their original and "as cast" configuration. Any evidence of matching, sanding, polishing, relieving, grinding, porting, coating, chemical treating, abrasive blasting or any other alterations to the original form or the addition of any material whatsoever to any ports or chambers is prohibited.
K. Engine:
1.A 1" inspection hole required in oil pan must be able to see front counter weight and connecting rods. (Mandatory 2004) 100# weight penalty first week without, DQ after that.
2.Stock production small blocks only in the stock location.
3.Manufacturer production heads only.
4.Compression ratio not to exceed 10.0 to 1 as measured by the track "whistler". if caught with higher than posted you will not run till it is fixed  and must make arrangements to be pumped and whistled before practice the week you return, you can google "compression formula" and calculate what you have.
5.Flat top pistons allowed. No domed pistons of any kind.
6.Must be straight plug heads only
7.Stock type distributor only. HEI distributor allowed with aftermarket parts, no external coils, ignition boxes, etc.
8.Engine must be in stock location.
9.Vortec heads allowed with cast iron intake, no bowtie intakes or machine work allowed. 
10.Non-Vortec heads may be bowl hogged and blended into the port, no other port work allowed.
11.Turbo stock vacuum rule. All cars must have fitting installed in manifold or carb and be ready to be checked at any time.
12.       Engine must have at least 12 inches vacuum at idle (800 rpm or less).
13.       GM Crate 88958602 with a 4412 carb,  and MSD6AL box with rev limiter and 6300 chip installed, mounted to far right side of dash. no modifications allowed          CHIP SIZE CHANGED 2/27/10
L. Camshaft
1.Hydraulic cam not to exceed .500-valve lift.
2.Engine must have at least 12 inches vacuum at idle (800 rpm or less).
3.Stock rocker arms with stock ratio only.
4.Stock valve spring diameter for manufacturer only.
M. Intake and Exhaust 
1.Stock factory cast iron intake and exhaust manifolds only.
2.No high-rise or open plenum intake manifolds
3.No center dump or "rams horn" exhaust manifolds.
4.Optional, factory aluminum or Edelbrock #2116 (vortec) & 2101 (non-vortec) or Professional products Cyclone 52001 & 52007 aluminum intake (available at Van Senus Auto Parts)
5.Exhaust must be tight and leak free. All cars required to have maximum of 2 quality 98db mufflers with an outlet size no bigger than 2 1/2" and must exit below floor pan, behind driver and Must exit under the car. Maximum of two outlets allowed.
6.Radiator must have a secure over flow tank of at least one gallon.
7.NO antifreeze allowed, $50.00 fine if found.
N. Carburetor:
1.Holley 350cfm (7448 & 0-80787-1), two barrel is the only legal carburetors. Must pass inspection with track tech tools and be within manufacturers tolerances. A one-inch adapter plate may be used.
2.Must retain choke horn, choke plate may be removed.
3.Carburetor must be unaltered. Must pass inspection with track tech tools.
O. Battery:
1.Battery must be securely mounted with more than just a bungee cord.
2.Battery box must used when battery is installed in driver's compartment and have a disconnect switch easily accessible to the safety crew.
P. Transmission and Rear end:
1.Stock automatic transmissions only. Transmission must have working torque converter. Min. 10". Must fit tech gauge, if in doubt, have it checked. No Direct Drives allowed. If it doesn't act, drive or sound, like your fellow competitors to the officials you will be asked to remove trans and converter at the end of the night to be inspected.
2.Extra transmission or engine oil coolers allowed.
3.Rear axles may be welded or locked.
4.The complete rear end assembly must be stock for your year car.
5.Steel drive shaft only, must be painted white.
6.Must have drive shaft hoop 6" behind front u-joint.
7.         No cambered rear ends.
Q. Tires and wheels:
1.The Hoosier 790 tire will be the only legal tire. We will be using a 1 tire rule. A maximum of 1 new tire can be put on the car per night and the other three must have at least one night of racing on them. The used tires must be branded with the IMS logo to and be recorded into logbook by tire tech official before you qualify. Only IMS branded tires will be allowed. Those tires must remain on the car all night.
2.Maximum wheel width is seven inches. No aluminum wheels.
3.Oversized lug nuts required. Reinforced or racing type steel wheels recommended
4.        Maximum of a three inch offset wheel allowed (no wheel spacers allowed). The “metric cars” can use only
          3” and  4” offset rims with the option of 2” offset on one side only.
5.No tire softeners allowed.        
R. Paint and Numbers:
1.All cars must be neatly painted and professionally lettered. Light colors are recommended, cars using dark base colors must have sufficient lettering and contrasting light colors to cover 1/3 of body.
2.Numbers must be a minimum of 18" high located on both sides of car and the roof. A 6" number is required on the left headlight cap or nosepiece.
3.Advertising-Nicknames etc. are allowed. Any indecent and/or profane lettering will not be allowed.
4.Drivers last name to be on both rocker panels in a contrasting color at least 4" tall.
S. Miscellaneous:
1.Snell SA-2000 helmets mandatory, SFI or Snell sticker must be visible.
2.Approved driving suit required.
3.Gloves and eye protection required, neck collars highly recommended.
4.No high performance products. No extra tanks, pumps, or weight transfer devices allowed.
5.Lead ballast must be mounted on top of, or on the side of the frame with ½ inch bolts minimum.
6.No weight is to be hanging down below the frame.
7.Absolutely NO straps, wire ties, wire, quick ties, etc. is to be used to secure lead ballast.
8.All cars will have tow hooks (mandatory) mounted to the front hoop (as per example in tech garage) (available through Scott Machine 219-696-3709 during off season and at the track during the race season) and have a secure cable, eyelet, etc. mounted at the rear of the car.
9.         Five Star steel body panels will be allowed.
10.       No carbon fiber components on the car.
11.       NO ALUMINUM ALLOWED, MUST BE ALL STEEL


Weight Adjustments: (NO POINTS AWARDED)
1.Screw jacks front  ADD 50# right frame rail
2.Headers Add 75# right side frame rail (NO 180 Degree’s)


IF FACTORY ROCKERS ARE GONE YOU MUST INSTALL 3 DOOR BARS WITH PROTECTOR PLATE THE SAME FORMAT AS THE DRIVERS SIDE.
((4.    Roll cage must have at least three door bars on drivers' side, and two door bars on the Passenger side.
       Driver's side bars must have 1/8"(11 gauge) deflector plate on outside.))


Transponders: All teams will be required to have and maintain their own X260 AMB transponder-scoring device. Traveling teams that do not have one will be offered to rent one for the evening at a cost of $20.00. A valid drivers license is needed to rent unit.
