Musgrave Memorial well Represented
Schererville, Ind.-Five former track champions are set to do battle with top stock car pilots from the Champion Racing Association (CRA) Super Series as the late model tour visits Illiana Motor Speedway Saturday evening for the fifth annual Elmer Musgrave Memorial 100 presented by Texas Corral.
Illiana "top guns" Pat Kelly, John Nutley, Dave Weltmeyer, Boris Jurkovic and Mike White, all with Illiana late model track championships on their racing resumes, will face off against the "cream of the crop" of CRA series stars, including Scott Hantz, Jeff Lane, Eddie Van Meter, J.R. Roahrig and Nathan Haseleu. Kelly is the defending Illiana champion and also won the crown in 2000. Nutley captured top honors in 2004, while Weltmeyer won in 2003, Jurkovic in 2002 with White putting together a string of three championships from 1997 through 1999.
Also entered is Jack Kalwasinski, who currently leads Illiana's limited late model point standings. Kalwasinski will do "double duty" during the night, competing both in the CRA competition, as well as racing in the 35-lap limited late model feature. A field of over 30 entries is expected for the 100-lap battle on the half-mile paved oval. Four cylinder Pure Stocks will also be on the racing card.
The event is held in the memory of the late Elmer Musgrave, who competed and won in both local and national stock car competition. Musgrave's son, Ted, the 2005 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, will be on hand Saturday for a special autograph session.
Saturday's first race is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. sharp. Qualifying will take place at 5:30 p.m. Gates open at 4:00 p.m.
Illiana is located on U.S. 30, 2 ½ miles east of U.S. 41 or 5 miles west of Interstate 65.
