Add another name to the list of winners in the late-model division at ASA-sanctioned Illiana Speedway.
Franksville, Wisc., native Blake Brown made his debut at the half-mile oval a successful one, running off to a big early lead and holding off a late charge from Jack Kalwasinski to capture the 25-lap main event.
Brown made a pass of Bobby Gash on lap five and led Kalwasinski by several car-lengths most of the way. With three laps remaining, though, Kalwasinski began to gradually close the gap. He was right behind Brown when they crossed the finish line.
"That was a ton of fun. I have to thank the guys at the shop for the work they do," Brown said. "The car was absolutely awesome. For the first time on the track we were surprised at how fast we were.
"I wasn't watching my mirror, but I felt (Kalwasinski) those last two laps. I just tried to keep going.
Third place in Saturday's main went to Jeff Cannon, while Gash, Mike Monroe and Chris Cooling completed the top six.
Points leader Mike White, meanwhile, entered the night with 719 points, while Monroe had 647 and Cannon 635. One blown radiator hose and a serious crash later, the gap is much closer now.
White, who was sore but otherwise uninjured, suffered his misfortune while running his second qualifying lap. His No. 00 was done for the night.
Anthony Danta captured his sixth limited late-model feature of the season after steering clear of a handful of early skirmishes ahead of him.
"I don't know what was going on up there, they were going three wide on the starts," Danta said. "It got a little hairy a few times, but everybody around me kept their heads and we were all able to get through.
"It was good to get a win again. We had some bad luck for a few weeks, and then last week we had a rainout. It's just really good to be back (in victory lane)."
Danta beat Johnny Senerchia to the finish line by 1.933 seconds. Rita Fields had the best run of her career with a third. Points leader John Nutley was fourth, followed by Dave Dotter and Kevin Moenck.
Scott Gardner put on a power show in the turbo stox feature, taking the lead from Mark Ross Jr., on lap 12 and beating him by 1.631 seconds.
"The car was very fast tonight," Gardner said. "I've got to thank Al Powell and Johnny Senerchia for a good suspension, and Zap's for building a good engine."
Bill Serviss checked in third, with Brian Kucaba, Chris Woodall and Billy Jarrells following.
Tommy Jones was a first-time feature winner in the Legends division over Ross Kenseth and Chris King. Mike Lindemulder beat Chris Czaszwicz in the pure stocks 'A' feature, while Cheryl Hryn was the class of the field in the 'B' main.
